He grew up in Bondoufle, Île-de-France, near Paris. His father Jean-Philippe is originally from the French West Indies and introduced Arthur to tennis at age five.

Fils began training at the Saint-Michel-sur-Orge tennis club before joining the French National Training Center near Stade Roland Garros in Paris in 2019.

Junior Career

Fils had a standout junior career that included winning the prestigious Orange Bowl in December 2020—the tenth French player to win this tournament.

In June 2021 at Roland Garros, he claimed the boys’ doubles title alongside Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard and finished as runner-up in the boys’ singles event to Luca Van Assche. These achievements propelled him to a career-high junior ranking of World Number 3.

Professional Career

Fils turned professional in late 2021 and made his ATP debut at the Rolex Paris Masters in October 2022 as a wildcard entry. At just eighteen years old, he became the youngest French qualifier to enter the main draw of a Masters tournament since Gaël Monfils in 2004.

In 2023, Fils won his maiden ATP title at the Lyon Open by defeating Francisco Cerúndolo in straight sets. He became the youngest champion in tournament history and entered the top-100 rankings for the first time.

Later that year at Wimbledon, he recorded his first Grand Slam doubles win alongside Luca Van Assche by defeating Stefanos Tsitsipas and Petros Tsitsipas.

At the US Open, Fils earned his first Grand Slam singles win by defeating Tallon Griekspoor before falling to Matteo Arnaldi in the second round. He reached his second ATP final at the European Open but lost to Alexander Bublik.

At Wimbledon 2024, he reached the fourth round for the first time after defeating Hubert Hurkacz and Roman Safiullin but lost to Alex de Minaur.

At the Hamburg European Open, he claimed his first ATP500 title by defeating Alexander Zverev in three sets.
