Baseline

Baseline is a basketball term used to define the boundary line that runs along each end of the court, located behind the baskets.

There are two baselines on a basketball court, one at each end, and they are positioned four feet behind the backboards. Each baseline is 50 feet long and extends from one sideline to the other.

The baseline serves as an important marker for both offensive and defensive play. When the ball goes out of bounds over the baseline, the opposing team gets possession and must inbound the ball from behind the baseline.

Players also use the baseline to position themselves for certain shots, like the baseline jumper or baseline drive to the basket.
