The Backboard in basketball is the rectangular board measuring 6 by 8 feet that sits behind the basket.
It is where the basket is attached and is usually made out of fiberglass, Plexiglass, tempered glass, or wood. Some backboards are fan-shaped, especially in recreational environments.
It is used in the National Basketball Association, NCAA, and in international basketball. Modern professional backboards are built to withstand immense amounts of force in the event of a dunk.
