Backcourt is a term used in basketball. It is the half of the court where the basket is being defended. It refers to the half side of the court that the team is trying to defend. Technically, it is the opposite end of the offensive basket.
The term could also be used to refer to players who mainly play in this part of the court. Usually, guards (point guard and shooting guard) are the ones playing the backcourt.
