Liezel Huber
Liezel Huber is a former professional tennis player who represented both South Africa and the United States internationally. She is a multi-time Grand Slam champion in women's and mixed doubles and a former World No. 1 doubles player.
Player Profile and Personal Life
Liezel Huber was born on August 21, 1976, in Durban, South Africa. She moved to the United States at age 15 to attend the Van Der Meer Tennis Academy.She became a naturalized American citizen in July 2007. Huber married Tony Huber in February 2000. In 2005, she established her foundation, Liezel's Cause, which raises money and gathers supplies to help victims of Hurricane Katrina.
Professional Career
Huber turned professional in 1993. While she competed in singles, her greatest achievements were in doubles.She won 53 WTA and 11 ITF doubles titles, reaching the World No. 1 ranking in November 2007. In women's doubles, she won the Australian Open in 2007, Wimbledon in 2005 and 2007, and the US Open in 2008 and 2011.
She also won two mixed doubles major titles, winning the French Open in 2009 and the US Open in 2010. She competed for the United States at the 2008 and 2012 Olympics, reaching the semifinals in doubles in 2012.
She retired from professional tennis in 2017.
