This would also make Hurkacz pursue the Nitto ATP finals qualifiers. The 24-year-old player is currently ranked 9th place in the FedEx ATP Race to Turin. He displayed a powerful performance against 2016 champion Pouille, who lost his rhythm three times.
Hurkacz has nothing but good words on his opponent, stating that Pouille was playing aggressively and he is a great player. He is also hoping that he’ll see Pouille closer in the Top 10. He also gratefully mentioned that he had fun playing in front of the live audiences.
Hurkacz’s previous match was during the US Open, which he was eliminated during the second round by Andreas Seppi. Now that he’s headed to the Quarter-finals, he will be facing former World Number 1 Andy Murray, who was also eliminated early in the US Open. Hurkacz was confident as he had practiced on the court a couple of times with Jan Zielinski. He also said that Metz has a great atmosphere and he enjoyed seeing the crowd.
On the other hand, German Peter Gojowczyk had won against top seed Karen Khachanov 6-3, 7-6(2) and he will be proceeding to the quarter-final as well. The 32-year-old Gojowczyk had once enjoyed his Metz trophy in 2017. He also had reached the fourth round for the first time in the US Open.
Gojowcyzk will soon be playing against American Marcos Giron, who had defeated Australian Alex de Minaur 7-5, 7-6(5).
