Vincent Kompany is a Belgium international football player who currently features for the English and European giants Manchester City. He plays as a central defender and is considered as one of the best in the world in his position.

Kompany commenced his professional club football career at Belgian giants Anderlecht when he was just 17 years of age. From the very start, he showed his promise and won the Belgian Golden Shoe and the Belgian Ebony Shoe awards. Kompany won the Belgian first division title in 2003-04 and 2005-06.

In June 2006, after making 73 appearances in the league and scoring six goals in the process, Kompany joined German Bundesliga Hamburg for a transfer fee of €10 million. He suffered an achilles injury in November that ruled him out for the remainder of the 2006-07 season. He won the Uefa Intertoto Cup with HSV in 2007.

Manchester City came calling in August 2008 and signed Kompany from Hamburg for £6 million. He quickly established himself as a first-team regular centre-back and earned praise for his no-nonsense style of defending in the Premier League.

Kompany quickly grew as one of the most important players for City, winning the FA Cup in 2011 and the FA Community Shield and the Premier League in 2012, making more than 125 league appearances for the Citizens since 2008.

Kompany made his international debut for Belgium in February 2004 against France when he was only 17 years of age. He played for his country at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
