December’s midweek madness has been multiplied by COVID chaos with Manchester United’s clash with Brentford postponed impacting popular Fantasy picks such as Cristiano Ronaldo and Bruno Fernandes.

Thursday’s Leicester City-Tottenham game is no certainty to go ahead either, so decisions need to be made on the Fantasy front.

New Options

Leicester City midfielder Youri Tielemans took over penalty duty with Jamie Vardy out last game, bringing in a bumper score of 16 for a nice price tag. He had been out for a few weeks so that’s a welcome return. However, note the doubt over Leicester’s upcoming fixture.

Arsenal defender Kieran Tierney has had a reprieve in recent games and has made the most of it with some assists and clean sheets, collecting back-to-back scores of 12 at a low price.

West Ham defender Arthur Masuaku is another cheap option who has surprised lately, with scores of 9 and 7 over the past two games. If you need a cheap defender, he could be your man.

Previous week lessons

Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount underlined that he is in the premium category with a third goal in three games for the Blues. Mount had gained bonus points in the previous two games and is an in-form player.

If you do not own Watford’s Emmanuel Dennis then you are missing out. The Hornets striker has scored four goals and provided four assists in his past five games and is a bargain.

Another player to get on board is Leicester City midfielder James Maddison who has a four-game average of 10.75, returning to form with 16 points last gameweek including a goal and two assists. Again, note that Foxes game.

Who to captain?

Liverpool and Mohamed Salah come up against struggling Newcastle with goals up for grabs. The Magpies have conceded 34 goals in 16 games, which is the most in the Premier League. Salah is normally the default captain option but coming up against a lowly opponent locks that in.

We’re not going to offer much beyond Salah as he’s so glaringly obvious but some coaches may not own him. Manchester City’s Bernardo Silva is in fine form and comes up against another battling outfit, Leeds United, who have coughed up 25 points this term.

Injuries

There’s plenty of complications this gameweek, with Arsenal suspending Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang and stripping his captaincy for a disciplinary breach.

Man City defender Joao Cancelo is suspended after accumulating five yellow cards, while Brighton’s Shane Duffy is in the same boat.

On the injury front, Patrick Bamford has a fresh hamstring problem which may have opened the door for teenage Joe Gelhardt who scored last time out.

Southampton’s Armando Broja has a tight hamstring, while Everton’s Richarlison is also in doubt with a calf issue.

On the COVID-19 front, popular picks Son Heung-Min, Ayoze Perez and Daniel Amartey are sidelined.
