A Loose Ball Foul in basketball happens when a player commits a foul on another player when no team has possession of the ball.
This usually happens when two or more players are attempting a rebound. It can also happen when a players make illegal contact when going for the loose ball.
It is not considered as a defensive or an offensive foul and also does not count as a team or personal foul.
The opposing team of the fouling team receives free throws or inbounds the ball right after the foul when such a foul is committed.
The penalty for a loose ball foul is the same as that of a regular personal foul.
