Kicking is a violation in basketball where a player allows the ball to make intentional contact with their legs or feet.
This is a violation because players are only allowed to use their hands to make the ball move in basketball.
A kicked-ball violation will usually result in a turnover of the ball to the opposing team.
Kicking can sometimes be a difficult violation to call as it is not always easy to tell if the ball hit a player’s leg on purpose or by accident.
It was nicknamed ‘The Key’ because it resembles a typical keyhole in the 1930s when it was initially designed.
Example of Use:
- Nikola Jokic was hit with a violation for kicking the ball in the third quarter of the Nuggets match against the Suns.
