An Unsportsmanlike Foul is a type of foul that is defined as excessive physical contact.
It includes fouling an opponent from behind on a breakaway and fouling with no intention to get the ball. It is equivalent to flagrant-1 of National Basketball Association.
According to the FIBA rules, an Unsportsmanlike Foul is player contact that meets any of the following categories:
- Contact with an opponent while not legitimately attempting to direct the play of the ball.
- Excessive hard contact
- Unnecessary contact by a defensive player in an attempt to stop an offensive player from shooting
- Illegal contact from behind or laterally
Penalty for an Unsportsmanlike Foul involves free throws for the player the foul was committed on. If a player commits two unsportsmanlike fouls, he will be ejected for the rest of the game.
