The Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell or commonly called the Barcelona Open or Banc Sabadell, is an annual tennis event for male tennis players.

This tournament is played on clay court and is annually held in Barcelona, Spain at the Real Club de Tenis Barcelona.

From 1970 to 1989, this was part of the Grand Prix tennis circuit, except in 1971 where it was acquired by the World Championship Tennis circuit. The Barcelona Open is now part of the ATP World Tour 250 series.

History

The Barcelona Open was originally established in 1952 by Carlos Godo Valls, the former Count of Godo, to celebrate the country’s interest in tennis.

By the following year, the Barcelona International Championships was established where the crowned winner can lift the Conde de Godo Trophy, which was donated by the former count.

Tennis has become a tradition for Barcelona, that’s why an annual sporting event has to be celebrated. Thus, becoming the Barcelona Open as one of Barcelona’s social events.

As an ATP 500 event, the Barcelona Open offers substantial prize money and ranking points. The 2024 edition boasts a total prize pool of €2,782,960, with the singles champion receiving €488,390 and 500 ATP ranking points.
