Boss Open

The BOSS Open, formerly known as the Mercedes Cup and Stuttgart Open, is one of Germany's most prestigious tennis tournaments.

Founded in 1916, this ATP Tour 250 event takes place at the historic Tennis Club Weissenhof in Stuttgart, marking over a century of tennis excellence.

Tournament Evolution

The event's history dates back to pre-World War II when it was known as the Championships of Stuttgart. Following the war, it became the Stuttgart International Championships before adopting various sponsored names.

Mercedes-Benz's 42-year sponsorship from 1979 to 2021 established the tournament's unique tradition of awarding the champion both prize money and a luxury vehicle.

In 2022, Hugo BOSS assumed title sponsorship, ushering in a new era as the BOSS Open.

Venue and Surface Transition

The Tennis Club Weissenhof has served as the tournament's home throughout its modern history.

A significant transformation occurred in 2015 when the tournament switched from clay to grass courts, positioning itself strategically in the post-French Open calendar. This change enhanced its role as a crucial preparation event for Wimbledon.

Prize Money

The 2024 tournament offers a total prize pool of €734,915, representing a 2.30% increase from 2023.

The singles champion receives €111,785, while the runner-up earns €65,205. This steady increase in prize money reflects the tournament's growing prestige and commitment to professional tennis.

Tournament Classification

The event has progressed through various tour classifications, including the Grand Prix tennis circuit (1970-1989), ATP Championship Series (1990-1999), and ATP International Series Gold. Since 2009, it has maintained its position as an ATP Tour 250 event, consistently attracting top-tier talent to Stuttgart.
