Gisela Dulko turned professional in January 2001. While she enjoyed modest success in singles, her specialty was doubles, where she established herself as a top player.

Dulko won 17 doubles titles on the WTA Tour, including her most significant victories with her partner, Flavia Pennetta. Together, they won the WTA Tour Championships in 2010 and the Australian Open in 2011. Dulko also reached the mixed-doubles final at the US Open in 2011 with Eduardo Schwank. On November 1, 2010, she ascended to the World No. 1 ranking in doubles.

In singles, Dulko reached a career-high ranking of World No. 26 in November 2005 and won four WTA singles titles. Her best Grand Slam singles results were reaching the fourth round of the French Open in 2006 and 2011, and the US Open in 2009.

Dulko retired from professional tennis on November 18, 2012, at the age of 27.
