Patty Schnyder was born on December 14, 1978, in Basel, Switzerland. She stands 168 cm tall and she is left-handed with a two-handed backhand.Schnyder married her German coach Rainer Hofmann in December 2003. The couple later divorced in 2014. In November 2014, Schnyder gave birth to her first daughter, Kim Ayla, with her partner Jan Heino, and had a second daughter in 2019.
Career
Turning professional in 1994, Schnyder steadily improved, breaking into the world’s top 10 early. She won her first WTA singles title in 1998 and captured a total of eleven WTA singles titles, highlighted by her victory at the Zurich Open (Tier I) in 2002.Achieving multiple high-profile victories over reigning and former World No. 1 players, Schnyder was known for her ability to compete with the very best in the game.
Schnyder reached six Grand Slam singles quarterfinals and advanced to the semifinals of the Australian Open in 2004. She also made the quarterfinals at Roland Garros in 1998 and 2008 and the US Open in 1998 and 2008.
Her performance at Wimbledon peaked with a fourth-round appearance in 2007. In doubles, she won five WTA titles, reached the semifinals at the 2004 US Open and 2005 French Open, and broke into the top 15 of the doubles rankings.
