Juan Pablo Varillas Patiño-Samudio was born on October 6, 1995. His hometown is Lima, Peru. Coached by Diego Junqueira and also by Lee Browne, he is right-handed with a two-handed backhand. Career
He started playing professionally in 2013. In 2018, he gained media attention when he represented Peru at the South American Games and came home with a silver medal for men’s doubles and a gold medal for men’s singles. A year later, he represented his hometown of Lima at the Pan American Games. Varillas went home with the Bronze for men’s doubles.He made his first significant-finish at a Grand Slam event in 2020 when he made it to the second qualifier of the Australian Open. Two years later in 2022, he made it to the second qualifier at the Melbourne Park again.
In 2021, he made it to the second qualifier at the French Open and the first qualifier of the US Open and also Wimbledon. In the same year, he represented Peru at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics where he made it to the first round.
