Mate Pavic
Mate Pavic is a professional tennis player from Croatia and the current men’s doubles number 1 in the world. He has also held the number record in the same division in 2018 and became the youngest tennis player to have done so. In addition, he is the first player from his country to hold the number one record in both singles and doubles divisions.
Pavic was born in the beautiful city of Split in Croatia to a tennis coach father and a kindergarten mother. He and his two sisters began playing tennis at a young age. After undergoing training, he started competing as a junior player. In his junior career, he had a singles record of 95-51 and a doubles record of 90-39. He was ranked 5th in January 2011 and was able to reach the quarterfinals of the Wimbledon Championship and the French Open in 2010. His biggest junior career achievement happened to win he won Wimbledon Championships Boys’ Doubles in 2011 with partner George Morgan. This win allowed him to get a wildcard that enables him to reach the finals round of the ATP doubles together with Ivan Dodig in 2012.
After stepping into the professional world of tennis and focusing on the doubles divisions, Pavic achieved impressive wins. He comes with 5 Grand Slam championships including the Wimbledon Championships in 2021 with Nikola Mektic, US Open in 2020 with Bruno Soares and the Australian Open in 2018 with Oliver Marach in the men’s division and Gabriela Dabrowski in the mixed doubles division as well as the US Open in 2016 with mixed-doubles partner, Laura Siegemund. Aside from winning championship titles, Pavic also finished in the runner-up place during the French Open in 2018 in both men’s and mixed doubles categories. He and his partner were also the runner-ups of the 2019 and 2020 French Open.
In addition to the ATP and Grand Slam, Pavic also won the gold medal with Nicola Mektic in the 2021 Tokyo Olympics as well as the championship title of the 2018 Davis Cup. Mektic also became his partner in the ATP in 2021.
