Player Profile and Personal Life
Elena Andreyevna Rybakina was born on June 17, 1999, in Moscow, Russia, and continues to reside there. She stands 184 cm tall and plays right-handed with a two-handed backhand. Since 2025, she has been working with coach Davide Sanguinetti.
Rybakina has won more than US$16.8 Million in prize money.
She began playing tennis at age six, initially practicing gymnastics and ice skating before focusing on tennis. She trained at the Spartak Tennis Club in Moscow under coaches including Andrei Chesnokov and Evgenia Kulikovskaya.
In 2018, she switched her sporting nationality to Kazakhstan, receiving financial support from their federation. She has faced public scrutiny due to her nationality switch but remains focused on her career.
Juniors
Rybakina was a former World No. 3 junior. She began playing on the ITF Junior Circuit at age 14 in 2013, winning her first title at the Grade-3 Almetievsk Cup. She reached the final of the Belgian International Junior Championships in 2015 and made her junior Grand Slam debut at the US Open the same year.
In 2017, her last junior year, she won the Grade-A Trofeo Bonfiglio, defeating Iga Świątek in the final, and reached the semifinals of the Australian and French Open juniors.
Career
Rybakina began her professional career in 2014, gradually rising through ITF and WTA events.
She won her first WTA singles title at Bucharest in 2019 and her second at the Hobart International in 2020. That year, she reached five finals and finished in the top 20 for the first time. In 2021, she reached the French Open singles quarterfinals and the Olympic semifinals, finishing fourth.
Her breakthrough came in 2022 when she won Wimbledon, becoming the first Kazakhstani Grand Slam singles champion. She also reached the Australian Open final in 2023 and won two WTA 1000 titles at Indian Wells and Rome. In 2024, Rybakina won three WTA 500 titles and reached the French Open quarterfinals. She won the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix in Stuttgart and the Abu Dhabi Open, and earned a semifinal at Wimbledon.
In 2025, Rybakina reached multiple WTA 1000 quarterfinals and semifinals, including Dubai and Indian Wells, where she won the title by defeating Aryna Sabalenka in the final.
