Diego Sebastian Schwartzman is an Argentine professional tennis player who is competing in the ATP Tour. He was born on August 16, 1992 in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and stands at 5 feet and 7 inches tall. He plays right-handed with a two-handed backhand and is coached by Juan Ignacio Chela.
Schwartzman was born to parents Silvana and Ricardo Schwartzman, and his family had emigrated from Germany to Argentina. He has three siblings: two brothers and a sister. As a player, Schwartzman is also known as “El Peque” which is an abbreviation for “pequeno” meaning “small” in Spanish.
Schwartzman turned pro in 2009, and was able to win in some Futures events from 2010 to 2013. By 2014, he was able to make his first appearance at a Grand Slam event, which was the 2014 French Open. The following year, Schwartzman enjoyed his best performance of the season while participating at the 2015 Istanbul Open.
By 2018, Schwartzman has been able to improve his game, and finally reach the Top 20 ranks. So far, his career record stands at 84 victories and 83 losses with 2 career titles. He does not have any Grand Slam titles yet, but was able to reach the quarterfinal round of the 2017 US Open. Schwartzman is currently ranked at No. 17 as of April 2018, although his highest rank was at No. 15 which he achieved in the same month.
In doubles, Schwartzman has also played in all four Grand Slam events, and was a participant at the 2015 Davis Cup where his team reached the semifinal round.
