Frances Tiafoe had an exciting victory against Diego Schwartzman 7-6(7), 6-4, 6-4 in the third round of the US Open.

Could he be the one to put an end to the Spaniards bid for his 23rd Grand Slam title?

Match Highlights:

22nd-seed Tiafoe beat 14th-seed Schwartzman and is the first American male player to reach the fourth round of the US Open in three consecutive years since Mardy Fish did it in the period between 2010 and 2012. He is now hoping to reach his second Grand Slam quarterfinals - that is if he makes it past Nadal.

In his match with Schwartzman, Tiafoe made 45 winners and only had 34 unforced errors.

β€œI thought it was a hell of a match. Especially that first set, one of the craziest sets I’ve played in my career,” Tiafoe said.

β€œIt had everything in it. Down two breaks, serving again at 6-5, me down 6/3 in the breaker. Unbelievable how I even won the set.”

Schwartzman led in the first set. He and Tiafoe have a Head2Head record of 2-2. Tiafoe and Nadal, on the other hand, have a Head2Head record of 2-0 in Nadals favor.

The last time they met on the court was back in 2019. They played against each other at the Australian Open and the Mutua Madrid Open.

American Tiafoe goes into the fourth round as a hometown favorite and many will be watching to see if he has what it takes to stop Nadal in his tracks.
