Maria Sakkari Advances to Semifinals of Mexico Open, Qualifies for WTA Finals

Maria Sakkari makes it to the semifinals for the Guadalajara Open 1000 after she defeated Veronika Kudermetova 6-1, 5-7, 6-4.

This is her second appearance in the WTA Finals. In 2021, she also qualified for the event and became the first Greek woman to qualify for it – she reached the semifinals.

This year, she joins Iga Swiatek, Ons Jabeur, Jessica Pegula, Coco Gauff, Caroline Garcia, Aryna Sabalenka, and Daria Kasatkina.

The WTA Finals will be played in Fort Worth. It is the pinnacle of the Hologic WTA Tour and will run from October 31 to November 7.

She has reached three finals this season including the Indian Wells, St Petersburg Ladies Trophy, and the Parma Ladies Open.

At the Mexico Open, she will next play Marie Bouzková in the semis. She is coming off a win against Anna Kalinskaya in the quarterfinals. The semifinals match is set for Sunday at the Akron Tennis Stadium.
