Carlos Alcaraz moves into the third round of the US Open after beating Federico Coria in straight sets 6-2 6-1 7-5 at the Arthur Ashe Stadium.

Spanish Alcaraz is on a run to win his maiden Grand Slam title. He is one of the four male players who could potentially end up in the No.1 spot of the world rankings after the major concludes. Other players who are vying for the position are Daniil Medvedev, Rafael Nadal, and Casper Ruud.

The 19-year-old showed how ruthless he can be on the court. He played another Argentine player, Sebastian Baez, in the first round and came away with a win.

β€œIt is never easy to close [out] a match. Federico started to play very well. I had to stay calm to think [about] what I had to do at that moment. I stayed calm and focused in the tough moments,” Alcaraz said post-match.

Match Highlights:

This victory has improved his record to 46-9 for the season.

β€œIt has been a great year for me. I think I am playing very well. I am so happy to be the player who now has the most victories in the year,” Alcaraz said.

β€œBut I have to look forward and stay the same player and go for it.”

At last years US Open, he made it as far as the quarterfinals. He is one win away from equaling his 2021 finish.

He next faces Jenson Brooksby. The American took down Croatian Borna Coric 6-4 7-6 (12-10) 6-1 in the second round. The match with Coric lasted three hours and eight minutes. This will be the first time for Brooksby and Alcaraz to play against each other.
