Andrew Thomas ‘Andy’ Carroll is an English football player who currently features for Reading. He plays as a striker.
Carroll developed at the youth academy of Newcastle United and made his debut for the first team in a UEFA Cup tie against Palermo on November 2006 when he appeared as a late substitute and became the youngest ever player to represent Newcastle in Europe - he was 17 years and 300 days at the time.
Carroll made his Premier League debut for Newcastle United in February 2007 against Wigan Athletic as he came on as a substitute. IN 2007 he won the Wor Jackie Milburn Trophy, an honour bestowed each year to the rising star of the north east football.
He was loaned out to Preston Northend for the 2007-2008 season and was drafted back into the Newcastle first team. His impressive performance for Newcastle in the first half of the 2010-11 campaign earned him a move to Liverpool in January.
He failed to live up to expectations at Liverpoool, scoring four league goals in his first full season at Anfield, before being loaned out to West Ham United in 2012-13. He eventually joined the Hammers permanently spending six years there, before moving back to Newcastle in 2019.
He struggled for goals at Newcastle and was released after two seasons. In November 2021, he joined second tier Reading on a short-term deal until January. He moved to West Bromwich Albion in January 2022 but left after a short stint with only three goals.
In September 2022, he re-joined Championship club Reading.
Carroll made his international debut for England in 2010, making nine appearances and scoring two goals.
