Giorgos Karagounis> is a Greek football midfielder who at present plays for Panathinaikos FC team and is famous for having scored the first goal of UEFA Euro in 2004. Because of his long range effort, the team won the opening match and emerged as champions.
He is the captain and an icon of the Greece team having an impressive collection of honors during his career. Other than being a part of the team that won the UEFA Euro 2004, Giorgos even led his team at the FIFA World Cup in 2010 in South Africa. This year was their second appearances at the world finals.
It was in 1995 when Karagounis started his professional career with Panathinaikos team. The following year, he moved to Apollon Smirnis, where he displayed fine displays for the next two years.
