Liverpool and Chelsea play out controversy marred 2-2 draw

Liverpool and Chelsea played out a 2-2 draw that is not short of any controversies.

Liverpool and Chelsea played out a 2-2 draw that is not short of any controversies. Luis Suarez was in the thick of things, with what seemed to be a deliberate hand-ball to award Chelsea a penalty, and then even more grave, an acquisition from Brainslav Ivanonovic who said he was bitten by him. Video replays showed that he possibly did bite the Chelsea defender.

The game saw Liverpool start real well with some high intensity football, but to no avail. Glenn Johnson was close to giving the home side the lead but in a high pressure situation just poked the ball wide.

Chelsea midfielder Oscar gave his side the lead with his tenth goal of the season. The goal came of a header during a corner after Juan Mata put the ball straight into the box and letting an unmarked Oscar score.

After the goal it was all Chelsea as they seemed to have taken full control of the game.

The second half saw Liverpool come out strong as Brendan Rodgers made a change by bringing on Daniel Sturridge in place of Philippe Coutinho. Sturridge came on and made a huge difference. He struck the post within minutes of coming on and also put Steven Gerrard through who should have scored.

In the 54th minute a moment of brilliance from Liverpool saw Suarez put in an inch perfect pass to Sturridge who tapped the ball into the net to equalize.

Well, within four minutes of the equaliser, Suarez seemed to have pushed the ball away from the head of Fernando Torres in the box awarding a penalty to Chelsea which was calmly slotted home by Eden Hazard.

Later on in the second half Suarez appeared to have bitten Ivanovic in the Chelsea box. The referee missed it and nothing was given. Suarez was once given a seven match ban for biting a player in the Dutch league. Old habits seem to die hard.

In the last minute of the game, Suarez had the last say, as he got on the end of a Sturridge cross to steal a point for the Reds. He equalised for the Reds with a brilliant header high into the net. Overall the game was a good game of football but Suarez’s behaviour has bemused many.

Chelsea stay is in fourth place in the table with 62 points from 33 games with a game in hand over third placed Arsenal who have 63 points. Liverpool is in seventh spot with 51 points.
