Belgium boss Roberto Martinez declared star midfield pair Kevin De Bruyne and Eden Hazard unavailable for the match following injuries sustained in the last-16 1-0 win over Portugal.
“Its quite positive for us. Eden and Kevin have no structural damage,” Martinez said.
“They will remain with the squad. We wont get them fully fit for Friday.
“In the next phase they will be fit to play. We take it day by day.”
Hazard was replaced late against Portugal, appearing to sustain a hamstring issue, while De Bruyne was substituted out early in the second half with an ankle knock.
Napoli’s Dries Mertens is an obvious replacement candidate, having come on for the Man City star, while Yannick Carrasco replaced Hazard.
Martinez has other quality options at his disposal, including Leandra Trossard and youngster Jeremie Doku.
The Belgian duo’s injury-enforced absence has led to Italy coming into favouritism with the bookies to progress.
Italy defeated Austria 2-1 in extra-time in their Round of 16 encounter, where two substitutes scored their goals.
