Defending Premier League champions Liverpool have suffered a 3-1 loss at the hands of defending La Liga champions Madrid away from home in the first leg of the quarter-final tie.
Vinicius Junior put Madrid in the lead at the Alfredo Di Stefano Stadium in the 27th minute, and Marco Asensio doubled the advantage on 36 minutes.
Although Mohamed Salah halved the deficit in the opening minutes of the second half for the Reds, Vinicius Junior restored the 13-time European champions’ lead on 65 minutes.
