Cheick Kongo is a professional kickboxer and mixed martial arts fighter from France. In February 2023, he was listed by Bellator as their Number 3 heavyweight fighter. He has been fighting professionally since 2001.

Cheick Kongo was born on May 17, 1975, in Paris, France. He currently fights out of Widnes, England. He is of Burkinabe and Congolese descent. He started training in martial arts when he was just five years old.

He stands 193 cm tall and has an impressive reach of 206 cm long. His weight was last listed at 110 kg, which allows him to fight in the heavyweight division. Kongo has an orthodox stance and he fights in the style of Kickboxing, Muay Thai, and Savate.

Career

He had his first professional MMA fight in June 2001. He went up against Andre Tete for Rings Holland. He defeated Tete and then went on to beat Dave van de Veen in December of that year. His first professional loss came in 2002 and it was against Rodney Glunder.

Kongo continued fighting for Rings Holland through 2005. In 2006, he was signed by the Ultimate Fighting Championship and he had his first fight for the UFC in July 2006. It was a win against Dave Dalgliesh.

He would fight for the UFC through to 2013. In that time, some of his more notable wins include Pat Barry, Dan Evensen, and Antoni Hardonk. He also had a few losses including a back-to-back loss to Frank Mir and Cain Velasquez in 2009.

In October 2013, he joined Bellator MMA. His first fight was a win against Mark Godbeer. From June 2015 to February 2019, Kongo had an eight-fight winning streak, beating fighters like Javy Ayala and Alexander Volkov.

In October 2020, he lost to Tim Johnson and in May 2022, he lost to Ryan Bader.
