Career
His first professional fight was held in April 2009. It was against Nikolay Pleshakov for M-1 Challenge. He had five more fights that year for M-1 and Pro FC, winning four out of the five. He continued to play for M-1 through to July 2010 when he lost to Maxim Grishin.After the loss, he moved to play for Ratnoe Pole and LM Tournament before returning to M-1 again in December 2010. In February 2012, he fought for BF – Baltic Challenge and beat Ricco Rodriguez. This led him to start fighting for Bellator MMA in October 2012.
His first Bellator MMA fight was a win against Brett Rogers in October 2012. His first Bellator loss was against Vitaly Minakov. It was for Bellator 108 in November 2013.
He left Bellator in 2015 after two straight losses. He then moved back to playing for M-1 before eventually signing with the Ultimate Fighting Championship.
Volkov’s first opponent in the UFC was Tim Johnson in November 2016. He beat Johnson and he followed this with a three-win streak before suffering his first UFC loss in October 2018. In June 2020. He had his second UFC loss in June 2020. It was against Curtis Blaydes. He followed this up with two wins against Walt Harris and Alistair Overeem before he lost to Ciryl Gane in June 2021.
In March 2022, Volkov lost to Tom Aspiinall. Then in June 2022, he beat Jairzinho Rozenstruik. As of February 2023, he is not yet scheduled for any new fights.
