Alistair Overeem, nicknamed ‘The Demolition Man’, is a professional mixed martial arts fighter. He fights for Glory, formerly known as the Glory World Series. He also used to fight for Strikeforce where he is a former heavyweight champion. In addition to MMA, he also fought as a professional kickboxer and is the first fighter to simultaneously hold MMA and Kickboxing titles.

Alistair Cees Overeem was born on May 17, 1980, in Hounslow, London, England. He currently fights out of Amsterdam in the Netherlands. He fights in the Kickboxing style. And he has been a part of the Hemmers Gym, Elevation Fight Team, Jackson-Wink MMA, Blackzilians, and the Golden Glory teams. He is the younger brother of Valentijin Overeem, another professional MMA fighter.

Career

Overeem turned pro in October 1999. His first fight was against Richard Fyeet. This was followed by a loss against Yuriy Kochkine. He and Kochkine had a rematch in May 2000, but Overeem still lost that fight. As he became a better fighter, he established a winning streak of 12 wins from December 2000 to June 2003. At that time, he started fighting for Pride FC.

He hit a rough spot in his career from August 2005 to September when he suffered six losses including a loss against Fabricio Werdum. He bounced back after that and had a string of 11 wins, including winning his rematch against Werdum in June 2011.

Overeem took time off MMA and he did not return until 2013. He started fighting in the UFC in December 2011. He returned to the UFC in February 2013 but he lost his fight against Antonio Silva.

From that loss, he has stayed with the UFC, winning against fighters like Alexey Oleynik, Walt Harris, and Agusto Sakai. He has also lost against Curtis Blaydes and Francis Ngannou to name a few.

His most recent fight in the UFC was held in February 2021. It was a loss to Alexander Volkov.
