Pettis turned pro in January 2007. His first opponent was Tom Erspamer. He won that fight and the 8 fights that followed. Most of the time, he fought for Gladiators Fighting Series. In June 2009, he joined the WEC.
His first professional loss was to Bart Palaszewski. It was on December 2009 for WEC. He followed this with four straight wins.
In June 2011, he started fighting for the Ultimate Fighting Championship and lost to Clay Guida. He continued to play for the UFC through December 2020.
