A term used in Gridiron football, “roughing the passer” is used to describe the act of coming into contact with the passer after the passer has released the ball from both hands – usually the quarterback. While making contact with the quarterback is a sanctioned defensive act, defenders are not allowed to make contact with the quarterback after the ball is released, unless the contact happens during the course of momentum.
