Used in the National Football League, the term “roughing the kicker” refers to a foul committed by a defensive player. This foul usually occurs when a defensive player has contact with the plant leg of the kicker while his kicking leg is in the air or if the defensive player comes into contact with the kicker when the kicker’s feet are on the ground.
