In American football, a “placekicker” refers to a player whose specific duties include kicking field goals and extra points. Even though the task of a “placekicker” was not a specialized role in the beginning, football teams began to have a special designation for “placekickers” during the 1940s and also included punting and kickoffs in their tasks.
