Kam Chancellor, famously nicknamed "Bam Bam Kam," is an American former professional football safety who played his entire nine-year career in the National Football League (NFL) for the Seattle Seahawks.

He won the Super Bowl XLVIII championship with the Seahawks.

Player Profile, High School, and College Career

Kameron Darnel Chancellor was born on April 3, 1988, in Norfolk, Virginia, United States. The massive safety stood 191 cm tall, and played at a listed weight of 102 kg, carrying the frame of a linebacker while playing in the defensive backfield.

He attended Maury High School in Norfolk, where he showcased exceptional athleticism as a two-way star, originally playing both quarterback and safety. Committing to Virginia Tech, Chancellor played for the Hokies from 2006 to 2009.

Under the guidance of legendary head coach Frank Beamer, he transitioned fully to the defensive side of the ball, steadily developing into a formidable strong safety. His standout senior campaign in 2009 earned him Second-team All-ACC honors and solidified his reputation as a heavy-hitting NFL prospect.

Professional Career

Chancellor was selected by the Seattle Seahawks in the fifth round (133rd overall) of the 2010 NFL Draft.

After spending his rookie year primarily as a special teams standout and a backup, Chancellor took over the starting strong safety role in 2011. He made an immediate impact, earning his first Pro Bowl selection and firmly establishing the physical identity of head coach Pete Carroll's defense. Alongside Earl Thomas and Richard Sherman, Chancellor formed the core of the historic "Legion of Boom" secondary.

During the 2013 season, Chancellor's intimidating presence and elite coverage skills helped transform the Seahawks into the league's most dominant defense. His exceptional play earned him Second-team All-Pro honors, and he followed it up with a spectacular performance in Super Bowl XLVIII.

Over his nine seasons in Seattle, Chancellor was named a Pro Bowler four times and a Second-team All-Pro twice. He routinely played his best football during the playoffs, becoming famous for his instinctual playmaking and momentum-shifting tackles.

During the 2017 season, he suffered a severe neck injury that ultimately proved to be career-ending.

Retirement and Off the Field

Following complications from his neck injury, Chancellor was forced to prematurely conclude his playing career, officially stepping away from the game after the 2018 season.

He finished his NFL journey with 607 total tackles, 12 interceptions, and nine forced fumbles. He was honored as a member of the Seattle Seahawks Top 50 Players list.
