Lorna Ward
Lorna Grace Ward is a former South African test cricketer who played for her country from 1960 till 1972. She was born in the Cape Province in South Africa and played domestic cricket for the Eastern Province domestic team in her early years, the records for which are unavailable. She has also represented the Natal team and Southern Transvaal in first class provincial cricket.
Ward made her test debut in 1960 against the England women’s team. The same season, she played against the touring England and in the first test Ward was dismissed in a run-out making her the third South African to have been dismissed in the first innings. In her bowling innings, she dismissed 4 players to help restrict the opponents behind by an innings.
Playing for South Africa, Ward has participated in a total of 7 test matches. Her batting average is 5.77 while her bowling average is 17.29. Her career best bowling figures are at 6 wickets for 48 runs. She is remembered for having taken 5 wickets in an innings on three different occasions.
