Morne Morkel bowls right arm fast and bats left handedly in the South Africa cricket team. He has also played for Yorkshire, titans, Rajasthan Royals, Kent, Easterns and Africa XI. Presently, he has been retained by the team of Delhi Daredevils team to play at the IPL 5 season 2012.

Morkel debuted in Test cricket in the match between South Africa and India at Durban (Kingsmead) from 26th to 30th December 2006. In the 1st innings, he was the No. 10 batsman and he remained unbeaten on 31 in 52 deliveries. He bowled 18 overs, out of which 1 was maiden, conceded 86 runs and made 3 dismissals. In the 2nd innings, he played at the No. 9 spot and made 27 runs in 41 deliveries. 25 runs were scored off his 6 overs and he failed to take any wicket. South African won this match by 174 runs.

Morkel played his first One day International on 6th June 2007 at Bangalore (M Chinnaswamy Stadium). This was a match between Asia XI and Africa XI. He bowled 10 overs, out of which 1 was maiden, conceded 68 runs and took 3 wickets. He was allocated the No. 11 batting spot where he remained unbeaten on 4. Asia XI won this match by 34 runs.

Morne took 139 wickets in 39 Test matches and bowled 7560 balls in which 4174 runs were scored. His bowling strike rate was 54.3 and bowling average was 30.02. He appeared in 54 One day Internationals wherein he bowled 2684 deliveries and conceded 2179 runs while taking 94 wickets. His economy rate was 4.87.
