Johannes Albertus Morkel also called as Albie Morkel is a South African all rounder who bats left-handed and bowls right arm fast medium. He is particularly known for his ability to hit sixes in Twenty20 cricket. At present, he has been bought by Chennai Super Kings to play at the IPL 5 season.

In his first season of first class cricket Morkel played for Easterns against Griqualand West and finished with figures of 6 for 36. During the 2004-05 season he could take only 20 wickets at an average of 40.65 however his batting showed improvement as he scored 204 not out against Western Province Boland.

His international debut tour of New Zealand was not very impressive where he got just two wickets however during Zimbabwe's tour of South Africa he got five wickets cheaply. Although he was chosen for the 2005 Afro-Asian Cup he withdrew due to injury. In the series of 2007 he played for South Africa and in the second game opened the bowling along with his brother Morne which is recorded as the first time that two brothers have played in such a manner in one day international cricket.

Albie has played very impressively in the Twenty20 version of the game. In October 2005 he made his Twenty20 debut against New Zealand. During the inaugural ICC World Twenty20 held in South Africa in 2007 he was a significant member of the South African Team.

In the inaugural season of the Indian Premier League Albie played for the Chennai Super Kings.

In the Indian Premier League inaugural season Albie sparkled as an all rounder as he scored 241 runs and took 17 wickets.
