Styris completed his school education at the Hamilton Boys’ High School.
Career
He started his professional career playing for the Northern Districts. He was with them from the 1994/95 season to the 2004/05 season.
During that time, he was also capped to play for the New Zealand National Team and was active there from 1999 to 2011. While with them, he made his One Day International debut in 1999. Then he had his Test Cricket debut in 2002. He did not debut in T20I cricket until 2005.
From 2005 to 2006, he played for the Middlesex in England. Then from the 2005/2006 season through to the 2009/2010 season, he played for Auckland.
In 2007, he played for Durham, then in 2008-2009, he played in India for the Deccan Chargers of the Indian Premier League. From 2010 to 2011, he returned to England, this time to play for Essex. Then from 2010/11 to 2014/15, he returned to play for the Northern Districts again.
During that period, he continued playing abroad for the Chennai Super Kings, Sylhet Royals, Sussex, Kandurata Warriors, Hobart Hurricanes, Titans, Gazi Tank Cricketers, and Leicestershire.
He last played professionally in 2014.
