Sri Lanka preferred to take risks when naming their 15-man squad for the ICC World T20 to be played on their home soil next month.
Kumar Sangakkara and Nuwan Kulasekara were named despite injury clouds hovering over them and are still subject to fitness tests.
In addition, the squad features two uncapped players in Akila Dananjaya and Dilshan Munaweera. Dananjaya is a spinner and has been fairly successful for Wayamba United, the Sri Lankan Premier League franchise also captained by national skipper Mahela Jayawardene.
Munaweera is an opening batsman and comes in despite not being named in the preliminary squad announced earlier.
Ajantha Mendis makes a comeback after recovering from a back injury that kept him out since January. Upul Tharanga was a surprise omission, despite performing well in the SLPL.
Dinesh Chandimal will keep wickets as they kickstart their campaign with a warm up match against West Indies.

South Africa aim to step further and add a major tournament to their silverware as they have named a strong 15-man squad for the ICC World Twenty20.
The tournament marks the comeback of Jacques Kallis in international T20 cricket after a string of impressive performances for Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League.
The team will be led by AB de Villiers and has several match-winning players.
Richard Levi announced his arrival with a quickfire century and, given the conditions in Sri Lanka, would be expected to make an impression.
Graeme Smith could not make it to the final squad after being named in the preliminary lineup.
Albie Morkel is the main all-rounder while fast bowling department will be taken care of by Morne Morkel, Dale Steyn and Lonwobo Tsotsobe.
They will however be without the services of Marchant de Lange, the tearaway 21-year old fast bowler who sustained a back injury during the unofficial triangular series against Bangladesh and Zimbabwe.
