In boxing, "Fall Through the Ropes" is a term used when a boxer is knocked out of the ring, either through the ropes or not.
When this happens, the referee begins a count, but instead of the usual ten-count, the boxer is given a twenty-count to return to the ring unassisted.
If the boxer manages to get back into the ring and on their feet without help before the count of twenty, the fight can continue. However, if the boxer fails to return within the allotted time or requires assistance to do so, they are considered knocked out, and the fight ends.
This rule allows for a fair chance for the boxer to recover and continue the match, while also ensuring that a boxer who is too injured or disoriented to safely continue is not allowed to do so.
The extended count recognizes the additional time it may take for a boxer to navigate back into the ring after being knocked out of it.
