Jonathan Gonzalez is an active professional boxer from Puerto Rico. He is a former WBO Light Flyweight World Champion, known for his slick, defensive southpaw style.

Jonathan "Bomba" González Ortiz was born on April 24, 1991, in The Bronx, New York, USA. The Puerto Rican fighter is 157 cm tall and has a wingspan of 157 cm.

He has competed in the Light Flyweight and Flyweight divisions. He fights from a southpaw position and operates out of Caguas, Puerto Rico. As an amateur, he was a standout talent, winning gold medals at the 2008 Youth World Championships and the 2010 Central American and Caribbean Games.

Career

Gonzalez began his professional campaign in April 2011 with a first-round TKO victory. He experienced early career ups and downs, including a loss to Giovani Segura in 2013 and a TKO defeat to Kosei Tanaka in a 2019 challenge for the WBO Flyweight Title.

He found his greatest success after moving down to the Light Flyweight division. In October 2021, Gonzalez upset Elwin Soto via split decision to capture the WBO Light Flyweight World Title. He successfully defended his belt three times, securing victories over Mark Anthony Barriga, Shokichi Iwata, and Rene Santiago.

In October 2024, Gonzalez vacated his title to move up in weight and challenge Anthony Olascuaga for the WBO Flyweight World Title in Japan. The fight ended controversially in the first round; after a headbutt caused a cut, Gonzalez indicated he could not see. The bout was initially ruled a No Contest but was later overturned to a TKO loss by the Japan Boxing Commission, which ruled that Gonzalez had abandoned the fight.
