Jason Moloney was born on January 10, 1991, in Mitcham, Victoria, Australia. The Australian fighter is 165 cm tall and has a wingspan of 165 cm.

He has competed primarily in the Bantamweight division. He is the twin brother of fellow boxer Andrew Moloney. He represented Australia at the 2010 Commonwealth Games as an amateur.

Career

Moloney began his professional campaign in August 2014. He built his way into title contention by capturing the Commonwealth Bantamweight title and the WBA Oceania title (which he successfully defended multiple times).

His quest for a world title was defined by perseverance, as he failed in his first two attempts against Emmanuel Rodríguez and Naoya Inoue. He lost a close split decision to Rodríguez in 2018. In 2020, he fought unified champion Inoue but was defeated by a seventh-round knockout.

In May 2023, Moloney realized his goal, defeating Vincent Astrolabio by majority decision to win the vacant WBO Bantamweight world title on his third attempt. He successfully defended the title against Saul Sanchez before losing it in May 2024 to former kickboxer Yoshiki Takei by unanimous decision in Tokyo.
