A Granny Shot is an underhand free throw shooting technique where the player holds the ball with both hands below their waist and releases it with both arms extended.
This unorthodox shooting style is often mocked and compared to how a grandmother might shoot.
However, the granny shot can be an effective way to improve free throw accuracy. Hall of Famer Rick Barry famously used the granny shot throughout his career.
He retired with a 90% free throw percentage, one of the highest in National Basketball Association history. Wilt Chamberlain also briefly switched to the granny shot in his 100-point game.
Despite the potential benefits, most players avoid the granny shot due to its awkward appearance.
