The Free Throw Line is a marking on the basketball court where players shoot free throws.
It is a straight line that runs parallel to the end line, 15 feet from the basket. The free throw line is 12 feet long and 2 inches wide. Players must stay behind this line when attempting a free throw.
They cannot cross the line until the ball hits the rim or backboard. The free throw line is also used to define the three-second lane.
