Double dribble

Double Dribble is a violation that results in a turnover. It happens when a player dribbles the ball with both hands simultaneously. A double dribble also occurs if the player stops dribbling and then starts again.

The double dribble rule helps keep the game moving and fair. It prevents one player from holding the ball too long without passing. Once a player picks up their dribble, they cannot dribble again until another player touches it.

If a double dribble is called, the other team gets the ball. The player must pass, shoot, or continue dribbling with one hand to avoid a turnover. Referees watch closely for double dribbles, especially as players move quickly down the court.
