In basketball, DNP-CD means "Did Not Play - Coach's Decision".
It happens when a player is available but doesn't play in the game. Some players may have a DNP-CD for an entire season. Games missed due to DNP-CD don't count in the player's Total Games Played.
DNP-CD doesn't apply if the player is Suspended, Injured, or Penalized by the coach.
The only reason for a DNP-CD is the coach choosing not to play them – while in this status, the player is on the active roster but doesn't get any court time.
Despite being ready and able to contribute, a DNP-CD player watches from the bench. The coach makes a strategic decision to not give them any playing minutes. Over a season, repeated DNP-CDs can be frustrating for the player.
