Conversion

In basketball, a Conversion refers to a successful shot that results in points being scored.

This can be either a Field Goal (a made basket from anywhere on the court) or a free throw. When a player shoots the ball and it goes through the hoop, it is called a conversion.

The term is often used in statistical analysis to track scoring efficiency.

For example, a player's field goal percentage is calculated by dividing their made baskets by their total shot attempts. Coaches and players aim to have a high conversion rate, meaning they are making a good percentage of their shots.
