Outlet pass

An Outlet Pass is a kind of pass used to trigger a fast break in basketball.

The outlet pass’ goal is to initiate the transition from defense to offense. This is usually done when the opposing team has just made a steal, a defensive rebound, or a basket. In order to move the ball as fast as possible, it has to be given to the fastest teammate.

They are often long passes, usually thrown through the air.

The best one to do this kind of pass is usually the point guard, who usually makes the move to catch the defensive team off-guard. Some of the best players in the NBA who are considered best outlet passers include Bill Russell, Wes Unseld, and Bill Walton.
