Index rating – a rating for basketball players that was originally used by Liga ACB and then later adopted by the Euroleague Company. It is also referred to as the Performance Index Rating or PIR.
Other terms for this rating include Rating, Ranking, Valuation, Evaluation, and efficiency.
This rating is used to determine the Most Valuable Player as well as weekly and seasonal awards.
It is calculated by adding statistics of 3 and 2-point field goals, free throws, fouls drawn, steals, blocks, rebounds, assists, and points and subtracting these to 2 and 3-point field goal attempts, free throw attempts, fouls committed, own shots blocked and turnovers.
The National Basketball Association uses something similar to the Index Rating, called the Efficiency Stat or the NBA’s EFF.
